The castle also houses the Regimental Museum of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders.

Visit Bannockburn Heritage Centre where Robert the Bruce defeated King Edward II and won freedom for Scotland from English domination. Sleep at the foot of the Wallace Monument, a gothic tower honouring Scotland's other national hero William Wallace. Our front bedrooms have a wonderful view of the monument, which is spectacular at night.

Stirling is an ideal touring base, Glasgow can be reached by train in 40 minutes, Edinburgh in 50 minutes and Oban and St. Andrews in just over an hour. Also on the doorstep is the beautiful Trossachs area with the unique steamship Sir Walter Scott sailing daily on Loch Katrine.

So whether it's tracing your ancestors, visiting battlefields, shopping for woollens or just leisurely taking in the history of Stirling you could not choose a better location.
